I. The Pressure on Women to Smile All the Time

Women are tired of being told to smile. Men are rarely told to smile.

There’s a survey that says 98% of women have to been told to smile more at work. It’s not like smiling makes us better at our jobs! Since my adolescent years, I’ve never been one to all day long. In fact, if you didn’t know me, you’d assume I’m having the least amount of fun, but that is not true at all.

I have lots of fun, even with a resting bitch face.

A couple of nights ago, I went to sleep feeling good. I woke up feeling even better. I decided to take a walk around the block. Everything was good, but I wasn’t smiling. Why? I was walking by myself!

I walked into the maintenance guy, Joe, who immediately yelled, “Smile, baby.”

Sigh. Here we go again.

“Why aren’t you smiling?” he said. “What’s the problem?”

“What makes you assume there’s a problem?”
