History of Sabbath

Sabbath, derived from the Hebrew word “Shabbat” or “Shavat” means to rest or stop working. According to biblical tradition, it commemorates the seventh day on which God rested after completing the creation.

On the first day, God created heaven and earth and separated the light from the darkness to create day and night.

On the second day, he created the sky to separate the water above from the water below.

On the third day, he gathered the roaring seas and placed them in one place to remain. This revealed the true beauty of the Earth. He called for plants to grow on the land to clothe the Earth.

On the fourth day, he created the sun to warm and light up the earth and everything on it, the moon to light up the night sky, and the stars to decorate the world.

And God said, “Let there be lights in the vault of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark sacred times, and days and years (‭‭Genesis‬ ‭1:14‬.)
