I never really liked parties

Life is to be celebrated but it need not always involve a party

A smile or the absence of one doesn’t tell you the whole story. Photo of author.

I have six siblings. Imagine us all anxiously waiting on January first. It was then that we would ever have a party. New Years Day was one of my brother's birthday but my dad used that as an opportunity to throw us all a party for our past and upcoming birthdays. My brother had the most fun and was the star but we all had fun.

It was everybody’s party.

I’ve never had a party of my own.

I grew up and had opportunities to throw myself parties or agree to others throwing me a party, but every single time I declined. On my birthday, I prefer to celebrate in ways that don’t involve parties.

I never really liked parties.

I enjoyed those childhood parties because I was not the star. It was okay if all eyes weren’t on me.

I grew up to become the biggest introvert and I would rather sit home and eat cake than go to a party or be the star of my party.

I never liked parties but I see how much people like parties.

Even pity parties.

I tell people that I’ve never had a party of my own and they are tempted to feel bad for me. They think it’s unfortunate. Like I’ve missed out…
