I heard it told so many times I knew I would someday tell it

Once a heavy smoker, my dad’s addiction to cigarettes had taken over his life. He smoked countless cigarettes each day and felt like he couldn’t function without them. His lips were dark and the smell of smoke had permeated his skin. He had tried to quit many times, but the addiction always won.

One day, my dad received a call that would change his life forever. He was tasked with hosting a very important man of God who was visiting their city from Europe. The man was known for his healing powers and ability to bring peace to those around him. This was such a big deal for my dad.

My dad was honored to be chosen to host the man of God, but he felt unworthy due to his addiction. He knew that his addiction to cigarettes would be a hindrance to his ability to properly host this important guest.

The night before the man was due to arrive, my dad sat in his living room, surrounded by cigarette smoke. He felt hopeless and desperate. At that moment, he knew that he needed to quit smoking.

But he didn’t know how.

He had tried everything, but nothing ever worked. As he sat there in despair, he began to pray. He prayed for guidance and strength to overcome his addiction.
